Small Puzzle Works

Why Puzzles?

During a critical illness and lengthy recovery, I began putting together jigsaw puzzles. I was struck by how many of the puzzle images were of tourist views; I became aware of mentally traveling to those places as I laboriously put the images together. Each puzzle piece can be thought of as stored bits of memory. Working with this idea, I have been creating complex hybrid landscapes made up of several intermingled jigsaw puzzles. The final works present a topsy-turvy world where nothing sits in its expected place. The resulting landscapes threaten our collective memory of these archetypal spaces.
